Curriculum Aims

The school is organised around three distinct units, the Early Years (Foundation), the Lower school (Infants) and Upper school (Juniors). Academic progress of all children throughout school is monitored and recorded.  The school is supported by the various ancillary services offered by Wakefield Metropolitan District Council.  The Governors feel that the Authority has been able to establish a distinctive philosophy and character by the means set out in 'The School Curriculum' WMDC.  Therefore, the Governors fully endorse this statement, which expresses well the principles needed for good primary practice on which this school has been founded and which we will endeavour to maintain and promote in the future.

The curriculum is what we do in School.  All children have equal access to all aspects of the curriculum regardless of their sex or rate of learning.  The aim of this school is to help each child to achieve his or her full potential.  We look for and encourage the development of lively, inquiring minds and the ability to question.  We aim to help children to live together in a caring and co-operative atmosphere, an atmosphere where everyone, especially the child, feels secure and valued.

A balanced and broadly based curriculum is provided which “....promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life....”

We hope to achieve our aims by having good relationships between everyone in school and those connected with it; each individual, adult or child, being equally important and giving their best.
