NEWS LETTER 10
4th March 2008
Dear Parents & Friends
What's happening around school?
World Book Day
This Thursday 6th March we are celebrating ‘World Book Day’. This is the biggest celebration of books and reading for children when each child will receive a Book Token worth £1. This can be used to purchase books in participating bookshops.
We are marking the celebration by asking every pupil to come to school dressed as a book or film character. If this isn’t possible then they can wear their ‘club’ outfit if they have one, e.g. karate, majorettes, etc. or even their favourite footballer if they have a kit. During the day each class will take part in an exciting range of activities linked to books
Scholastic Book Fair
Our school will be holding a Book Fair between 11th and 16th April. There will be a wide selection of children’s books available for you to choose from including picture books, young fiction and junior novels as well as reference and non-fiction titles. Your support would be greatly appreciated because for every book sold at the fair, the school earns commission, which will enable us to add new books to our school and class libraries.
The fair will be open for parents and children to look through the books during the following times:
Morning
|
from 8.50 am |
to 9.20 am |
Afternoon
|
from 3.20 pm |
to 3.50 pm |

Breakfast Club
Your completed questionnaires have now been evaluated and indicate that there is sufficient demand for a breakfast club. It is possible that the breakfast club will be ready for a grand opening after Easter.
School Refurbishment
I’m sure you will have all noticed our new school signs by now and be very pleased with them, as we all are; the design is fantastic and we owe a big thank you to our budding ‘graphic designers’! We are having a few teething problems with the porch but nothing that can’t be fixed, and the cycle shelter will be in action after Easter, a letter will be sent out next week with details.
Work continues in school with a ‘revamp’ of staff toilets, again to bring them out of the ‘dark ages’ and all remaining corridors in school will be carpeted during the Easter holiday.
Friends of Hendal Primary School
Dates for your Diary:
Friends of Hendal met last week to arrange another social evening and have come up with the idea of a ‘Quiz Night’; the date they have arranged is for the evening of Tuesday 20th May. It will be a fun filled family night and we will send more details a bit nearer the day.
Holding the Summer Gala on a Friday last year proved extremely successful, so we are hoping for a repeat performance on Friday 27th June, 3.00 – 5.00 p.m.
The Friends of Hendal are a very friendly, small group of parents who are looking for ‘new blood’ and would very much welcome and appreciate anyone who wishes to join them when they meet to arrange events. They are not at all ‘stuffy’, so please feel free to come along to any of their meetings, enjoy a cup of coffee and talk about any new ideas you may have.
Yours sincerely
