Year 3

This term, we are working on Victorians as our topic. We are working alongside Year 4, and following a more 'Creative Curriculum.'

This means that we are linking our art, science, literacy, music, geography, history, design technology and maths wherever possible to Victorians.

Last term, we looked at the development of London from 1066 onwards, and the major influences there have been on its development. This included a study of the major cultures and peoples who have chosen to make London their home, and the areas they have chosen to settle.

It all linked brilliantly with Chinese New Year, and Holocaust Day. We will be studying the Afro-Caribbean, Asian, Eastern European, Europeans such as Greeks and Italians...etc

  Open Futures update -

We are so proud that we have 16 films on the FilmIt website - more than any other school in Wakefield - but also that the filming has really supported our Literacy work. We have confident and articulate pupils in our school.

All of the seeds we planted a few weeks ago have germinated, and then we have been planting out. We do have BIG plans - perhaps a market garden??!! If you are interested in supporting either us or our gardening club in any way, please do come in to school....

Of course, if we are growing things, we are very interested in cooking them! We love the Cook It aspect of Open Futures (and the Eat it bit that follows!)

Recently, we have cooked an entire Chinese banquet for Chinese New Year. It was fantastic - there were noodles, dim sum, fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, plum sauce, sweet chili sauce, pancake rolls, dragon fruit, rambutans, xiang pears, Chinese apples, mung bean paste sweets...all of which were eaten with chopsticks!

That was no mean feat!!!!

As we leared about the Holocaust the following day, as part of the annual Holocaust Memorial, we then researched Judaism - the religion, traditions and ....food! We had a Jewish banquet of modern foods, sticking to the recipes in the Modern Day Jewish Cookbook.

We had potato latkes, lox and cream cheese pockets, Israeli tomato soup with matzoh balls, minted apple chutney, and stuffed mushrooms.
